Have we learned the wrong lessons from 9/11?

It’s late, and I ought to be in bed.  But I was just watching some History channel stuff about the attacks of 9/11, and it is all just riveting.  As I was about to turn my laptop off, like the junkie I am I just had to check e-mail one more time and I noticed that my 9/11-related commentary is now appearing on the Living Church of God website.  (How did I know?  Because I subscribe to LCG e-mail alerts, and you can too.)

Here is the title and first paragraph:

Have we learned the wrong lessons from 9/11?

Another September 11 anniversary has come and gone. It is a day when our country cannot help but recall the horrific attack we suffered seven years ago. As we all surrounded our television screens watching smoke pouring out of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon in attacks that eventually cost some 3,000 lives, we came to the realization that something had changed…

May we all pray that we, our leaders, and our people will learn the right lessons from that horrible day seven short years ago.

    Good Morning Mr. Smith,

Maybe we should start a twelve step group for internet and e-mail junkies. I’m sure there are plenty of other folks who suffer from powerlessness over their “Internet Impulses”. IA & EA are both available, I’m sure – but maybe not with all the different twelve step groups available these days.

I just got through reading your commentary on line as well, (I also subscribe to the LCG e-mail alerts). Sadly, you are dead on about the mental, emotional, moral and spiritual state of our great nation. One has to wonder if this fall will bring on another “official” level of punishment described in Leviticus 26.

    I guess we’ll have to wait and see . . .

There is an old saying that says, “It takes what it takes”, and there seems to be a lot of Truth in that. Fortunately, with whatever it taks, “It” will be achieved and our Lord will be here one day soon (the light at the end of the tunnel).

    Keep up the Good Work!

I did not check my email before going to bed last night, so I did not read the LCG Commentary until this morning. I, too, have the commentaries sent straight to my email.
After reading the commentary this morning, lots of thoughts went through my head. One of the thoughts was that I needed to get breakfast on the table and my husband off to the train station in time to catch a train. Then the cares of the day…Sabbath prep and errand running…kept me from responding to this until now.

The main thought I had this morning about the article was how we keep hearing, as we did then, the phrase, “God bless America.” Though we are very good about saying the words, we tend not to fulfill our part is allowing God to bless America.

The scriptures that came to mind this morning were Matthew 7:21-23…21.”Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22.”Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23. “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”

Even Mr. Obama has made the statement that if we were to put the Bible back in school, which version do we use? Mr. James Dobson believes it would be the version that he teaches. Though, Mr. Dobson does teach some pretty valuable lessons on morals, financing, child rearing, etc., he doesn’t get the importance of doing God’s Will God’s Way in all areas of life.

So, did our nation learn anything about how to honor God from 9/11? The nation remembered all those lives that were lost and the families that were torn apart on that day, but how many same sex marriages took place on 9/11/2008? The presidential candidates had declared a so so truce on mud slinging on 9/11/2008 in honor of those that died, but how many abortions took place on 9/11/2008?

Anyway, those were some of my thoughts of the day.
