The “Best of SHOWTIME”?

Just a quick hit before I collapse tonight.  After some family YouTube viewing, I went to the website (home page for our cable company) and was shown an ad offering the viewer a chance to “Sample the Best of SHOWTIME” — “Showtime” being the cable television network.  The ad was pressing their current “big hit” original series.  What was listed?

  • The Tudors: Sexually graphic program about a “rockstar of his age” Henry VIII.  (Previous mentions here and here.)
  • Dexter: Our hero? A charming, sociopathic, serial killer.
  • Weeds: A housewife who deals marijuana to make ends meet.
  • Californication: Uh… Do I have to describe this one, too?

Apparently, if you are interested in finding comrades “who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked” (Proverbs 10:14), then Showtime has you covered.

I think I will be skipping the “Best of Showtime”.

    The beauties in these shows are anti-models of the Proverbs 31 woman:
    * Secret Diary of a Call Girl
    * Weeds
    * Moment Of Truth Special Lauren Cleri Ruins Marriage (

    The last, from Fox not Showtime, is a potent example of bringing harm to her husband (Proverbs 31:12) and is like decay in his bones (Proverbs 12:4). This clip is potent enough to persuade a sucker for beauty to lower that trait on his list of requirements for a wife.

    “The *Best* of SHOWTIME”. I see. So oxymorons are now a tool of the trade in advertising (cf. Isaiah 5:20?)…

    Yeah. SHOWTIME is one of the reasons I’m glad I don’t have cable TV.

  3. It is getting harder and harder to find acceptable entertainment on most broadcast or cable TV channels. If you avoid programs with violence, illicit sex, and vulgar language and taking God’s name in vain, there is not much left. It seems like television has become Satan’s educational system for indoctrinating viewers in his anti-God values.

    I can still find some good programs, but to find them I have to be very selective.

    How about being a sucker for beauty from the inside out? 🙂 I’m amazed (or should I be?) that more women don’t realize just how beautiful righteousness can make them, even to enhancing whatever physical gifts they have.
